East African Cables, Sproxil East Africa and Safaricom partner under Zinduka Initiative

East African Cables  has partnered with Sproxil East Africa Limited and Safaricom to help curb the issue of counterfeit cables by introducing the Zinduka initiative.

It is estimated that Kenya loses KSH 70 billion, and close to KSh. 300 million annually  in the cable insustry due to counterfeit trade.  Fake cables pose a safety hazard to the consumers due to their substandard.

The Zinduka initiative mirrors the award winning Mobile Product Authentication™ (MPA™) solution. At point of purchase, consumers will scratch off a part of the special security label to reveal a unique, one-time use item code. They will then text the code for free to Sproxil’s short code in Kenya – 38353 – and almost instantly receive a reply indicating if the product is genuine or warning that it may be fake.

The Head of Sproxil East Africa Limited Geoffrey Otieno said “Through this technology, EA Cables will be able to know the location where counterfeiting is taking place and share the same information with regulators,”

Zinduka Mobile APP the mobile authentication system is developed by Sproxil  and Safaricom will offer data securing and the communication network on the Zinduka Initiative.

Sproxil was voted 7th most innovative company in the world, while Safaricom 9th.
